At HeakeSpeak, we think a simple thought:

  • Accessibility is not a specialty․

  • This is a shared responsibility․

  • Community resilience begins with each and every one of us․

HeakeSpeak was built on the principle that communication can only happen when every voice is heard in every space: that means digital spaces․ Physical spaces․ Classrooms․ Emergency response systems․ Neighborhood gatherings․ Town meetings․ Art studios․ Living rooms․

And it means you․

We're also looking for people who don't necessarily identify as technical people, but who may be accessibility testers, designers, emergency planners, technologists, and policy thinkers․

But we also need:

  • Artists who can help tell the story․

  • Writers and proofreaders who can create clear, accessible language․

  • Advocates and activists with a lived experience․

  • Teachers and mentors․

  • Parents, grandparents, caregivers․

  • Veterans and community responders․

  • Youth leaders and students․

  • Organizers and bridge-builders․

  • People who simply care․

If you belong to a community, you know something․

If you have lived experience, you have expertise․

If you believe in inclusion, you can participate in this effort․

HeakeSpeak is a grassroots campaign for literacy access, inclusive design, disability justice, and community resilience, incorporating the topics of WCAG compliance and accessible communication, inclusive disaster preparedness, and community crowd-mapping, as well as the technical and human systems that influence these issues․

But none of it works without people․

  • We need builders․

  • We need listeners․

  • We need storytellers․

  • We need neighbors․

You do not need to be an expert in accessibility to volunteer․

All you need to do is believe that everyone deserves to be heard, included, and safe․

If you are here, you belong here․

Let us build communities that are accessible, resilient․
