Help Guide the Work․ Share What You Know․

HeakeSpeak is a community-led project, focused on accessible technology, inclusive tech, and thriving communities․ We aim to become a nonprofit organization, and are looking for experienced volunteers, practitioners, and people with lived experience to help lead this work in an Advisory Board-style role․

It's not about status․ It's about visibility․ It's about sharing what we know to make HeakeSpeak a true reflection of the communities that we serve․

Who We Hope to Learn From

If you ‌are a volunteer, we would love to hear from you if you:

  • Accessibility & Disability Inclusion (digital, physical, policy, lived ‌experience)

  • Emergency ‌Management, Community Preparedness and Disaster Response

  • Instructional Design, Training, ‌or Technical Communication

  • Technology, Data, Mapping, or Digital Equity․

  • Community Organizing, Advocacy, or Public Service

Advisory volunteers help HeakeSpeak:

  • Consider accessibility, ethics, and the real-world implications․

  • Identify gaps, risks, and opportunities as the project progresses

  • Leave feedback on tools such as the Community Reporting Tool

  • To strengthen partnerships and community trust․

  • The work must be grounded, anchored to, and accountable

Participation is at a low time commitment but high impact level, such as occasionally attending meetings, reviewing documents, giving calculated advice, or consultation․

Why would you volunteer like this?

  • Your expertise helps shape accessible, resilient systems from the start

  • Your voice ensures that lived experience and community wisdom are centered

  • Eventually, you will be guiding an ever-expanding endeavor to its conclusion․

  • You are a part of something bigger than just this project or the ‌person

If you care about accessibility, community resilience, and making sure no ‌one is left out of the conversation, we'd love to hear from you․
